What is a Surgical Assistant?

The main role of a surgical assistant, a.k.a. first assistant, is to aid the surgeon during an operation. Proper first assist training can ensure that the surgical assistant is not limited to lower level assisting duties such as holding retractors, suctioning, and cutting suture. You may already be completing many of the tasks outlined above, but you don't get the pay and recognition of a surgeon assistant. There are many benefits to becoming a certified surgical first assistant including:

What is The Surgical Assistant Program?

The program begins with a 9 month online distance learning program called SurgiNet™. Nine Surgeon Assistant Courses (SN201 - SN209) must each be completed in a one-month period. The first assist clinical internship starts only after successful completion of the 6 day hands-on Surgical SkillLab™. The student will then make their own arrangements with the hospital where they work and/or another local medical facility to do their multi-specialty clinical internship, known as SurgiEdge™. A student is considered to have graduated and will receive a Certificate of Completion only after all SurgiNet™, Surgical SkillLab™, and SurgiEdge™ assignments are successfully completed and tuition is paid in full.

What is the Surgical SkillLab™?

The Surgical SkillLab™ is the crown jewel of the ACE Surgical First Assistant Program. This lab is six days of the most extensive, practical, and fun hands-on first assist training ever produced for developing surgical skills! You can sign up for the lab at any time during your online program, or it can be taken as a stand-alone for those who have the academic knowledge, but need practical, hand-on practice.
