OTHERS WITH OR WITHOUT OPERATING ROOM EXPERIENCE
DO YOU HAVE 2 YEARS OF OPERATING ROOM EXPERIENCE?
If you didn’t see your medical background listed, you may still qualify for the ACE Surgical Assistant Program. If you have 2 years of Operating Room experience with scrub proficiency, you qualify to enroll in our program no matter what your medical training.
Here’s an example: Medical Assistant (MA) is not a medical background that qualifies you for our program. However, we have enrolled a number of MA’s because their surgeons have taught them to be their private scrubs or their first assistants (Surgical Assistant) and they now have over 2 years of experience. For eligibility purposes, we see them as meeting the on-the-job trained Surgical Technologist requirement.
Whatever your medical background, you may qualify for the same reasons. If you have been scrubbing in surgery for 2 years or longer, click here and it will take you to the OJT Surgical Technologist page of this website. If you have a substantial medical background, you can even skip the extra prep training OJT techs must take.
YOU DON’T HAVE ANY OPERATING ROOM EXPERIENCE. SO WHAT CAN YOU DO TO QUALIFY?
All is not lost! In just about any town in the USA there is a formal Surgical Technology Program. They usually take anywhere from 9 months to 2 years to complete. You would be eligible upon graduating to enroll in the ACE Surgical Assistant Program.
A lot of people are enrolling in Surgical Technology Programs now, not because they want to hand the instruments in surgery. It’s because they understand the ST program will qualify them for the ACE Surgical Assistant Program.
Surgical Assisting is a career worth pursuing:
- You stand right across from the surgeon and help do the procedure
- You can work for a surgeon or hospital
- You can make a salary of up to $70,000 or more
- Some assistants even make six-figure incomes
