All told, you get over 154 surgical skills. But you don’t just get the skills. You get the various applications of those skills. This will prevent you from experiencing ‘deer in the headlights’ syndrome when you are expected to perform one of your new techniques in surgery. Instead, you’ll feel confident, composed, and ready to perform extraordinarily well, even when you may be new to first assisting.

You Can Take Just the Lab if You Want To

Some people may elect to take the lab portion of the Surgical Assistant Program only. Here are some examples:

  • Surgical Assistants or RNFAs who graduated from another formal Surgical Assistant Program but didn’t feel like they received enough, or good enough, hands-on training
  • Any assistant who wants a hands-on refresher course
  • PA’s and NP’s who are getting a surgical job and want the skills. The hospital may also require that they have or get some surgical assistant specific training in order to be awarded surgical privileges. If they want or need to get ABSA certification, they’ll have to take the full Surgical Assistant Program (with substantial credit awarded for advanced medical/nursing degrees).
  • The lab-only is required for unlicensed MD’s including surgeons with no recent surgical experience in order to qualify to sit for the ABSA certifying exam. The lab is not required if you can demonstrate at least 2 years of recent applicable surgical experience. MD’s may opt to take the full Surgical Assistant Program if they feel it will increase their chances of getting a job in the operating room or with the surgeon. Substantial credit will be awarded for advanced medical degrees.

When and Where

Can you attend a lab?

You don’t have to wait to attend the lab until you are finished with your online surgical assistant program. So, you can attend as soon as your schedule and finances permit, at the same time you are working on SurgiNet.

Due to limited seating (16 participants only), our labs fill up fast. We highly recommend you reserve a seat in the lab you desire to attend ASAP – before all seats are taken.

You can go to Dates & Locations below and select a lab you want to attend. Attend at any of our dates in Denver, CO or we usually have a date or two every year in Orlando, FL and Atlanta, GA

Or you can arrange for us to teach the lab at your hospital. Then you can avoid the expense of travel altogether. Some of the details may include:

  • A hosting fee may be added to the tuition to cover our additional costs
  • A minimum number of students may be required or a minimum dollar amount regardless of the number of students

Even if you want us to come to your facility to train just one person, we can do that. The tuition would be quite high (5 figures). But your hospital may still see it as an excellent value since they may not be able to go a full week without your services. We are also the only school that does house calls (come to your hospital to train you).
