Online Surgical

Assistant Program

The classroom portion of the Surgical Assistant Program is done online. It is fully self-paced so you can do it around work and family obligations. It all begins with 9 SurgiNet courses – each averaging one month. This timing is based on progress average students make. If you’d like to go faster than one month through subjects you already have a strong grasp of – you can. If you want to slow up to fully absorb subjects you are less familiar with – you can do that too.

This is the longest part of the Surgical Assistant Program. Some students have been able to take more time with the program, really buckle down, and get SurgiNet done in record time. We’ve had students finish the entire program in just 4 months! However, we give you 16 months if you needed. And after that, extensions are available for a nominal fee.

The SurgiNet online student portal allows you real-time access to your assignments, online testing system, assessments, your progress report, and your grades. And you can do it from any computer in the world with internet access, which is perfect for our students who work for staffing agencies and who travel to temporary assignments. Our students in the military also benefit, especially when deployed overseas. No attending night or weekend classes on campus. Whenever it’s good for your busy schedule, simply log in and start learning – or what we call advancing your career.

You’ll also be writing 3 research papers with one theme. For example, if you choose Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy as your theme, your first paper will be Lap Chole Patient. The second will be Lap Chole Anatomy. And the third will be Lap Chole Procedure.

Advanced

Knowledge

Advanced knowledge of your patient, their anatomy, and the surgical procedure are the 3 area of expertise you need to develop if you are going to be the very best assistant you can be. When you research them, you elevate your knowledge level. However, the magic occurs when you write them. You make researched knowledge a concrete part of you. Just reading can’t do that.

An expert in the subject Natalie Holland states, “A study published in the journal Psychological Science in 2014, finds that writing notes is much better for the long-term memory of ideas or conceptual information. Writing by hand is an activity that has been shown to have numerous benefits, both to the brain and the body… writing by hand is shown to increase memory. The act of putting pen to paper activates areas of the brain that help students increase their comprehension. It also engages more senses and motor neurons than typing on a keyboard does.”

So, while you gain great benefits by typing your paper. Some students love the enhanced results of first writing the paper out by hand, and then typing it as required before turning it in.
