Every Member of the Team Is Important

Surgical assistants play a vital role on the surgical team. They are an important part of the care team and contribute to the success of every surgery. Without surgical assistants, many surgeries would not be able to take place.

Field Growth in the

Foreseeable Future

The field of surgical assisting is expected to grow in the coming years. This is due to an aging population and an increased demand for surgical procedures. As the older generations age, they will require more surgeries. Additionally, advances in medical technology have made many new surgical procedures possible. These factors are all expected to contribute to the growth of the field of surgical assisting.

Why Being a Surgical Assistant

Is Such an Important Job

Surgical assistants have the unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of their patients. They play a vital role in ensuring that surgeries are safe and successful. Additionally, surgical assistants gain a great deal of satisfaction from knowing that they have helped improve the lives of their patients. They can be the intermediary between the surgeon as well as a direct assistant during the surgery. Surgical assistants are a vital part of the surgical team and their skills are in high demand.

SURGIEDGE™

CLINICAL INTERNSHIP

Our program does not rely on using time requirements as a measure for surgical rotations. This means we do not require a month of General Surgery, followed by a month of OB/GYN, etc. Instead, we require you to complete a certain number of cases in each field to work through our program (this is described below). You also don’t have to finish one rotation before you can start another. You can work on more than one rotation simultaneously, making our program a uniquely applicable experience and more like what you will actually experience in a hospital as a surgical first assistant.

Experience

& Rewarding Career

The experience you will gain during our surgical first assistant program allows you to access a surgeon’s expertise and work. It may open up opportunities like going on rounds with your surgeon; and, once they determine the quality of your skills, the depth of your anatomy expertise, and your humble but confident demeanor, you may get to do the entire surgery under their supervision. No matter the opportunities that present themselves, our surgical first assistant program will prepare you for a rewarding career in the operating room.

Before enrolling and being accepted into our program, you must choose your own surgeon sponsors. While this may seem like a hassle, this is a best-case scenario because you get to work with surgeons who already like you, have your best interests in mind, and want you to succeed. We also do our best to make sure you can get your clinicals in the hospital you work at because we know the location of your clinicals matter. If you need to get some of your clinical experience in another hospital, we’ll help you with that too! It is our goal to hear your needs and respond in kind, so that you are learning the most, and gaining the best experience possible.
