Nurse Practitioners qualify for 2 of our surgical programs. Depending on whether you just need the training to help you transition to the Operating Room or for continuing education or if you need a surgery specific certification. Either way you are in the right place.
“Surgeon Level Training for NURSE PRACTITIONERS”
The American College of Surgeons states that the ideal First Assistant/Surgical Assistant is a second surgeon or surgical resident. However, the fact is that surgeons across the country prefer Nurse Practitioners as their surgical assistants once they’ve been trained up to surgeon-level by ACE.
Surgeons who are the ‘ideal’ first assistants in surgery don’t bring everything they’ve ever learned in medical school and surgical residency to the role of the surgical assistant. They are really over-qualified. Because of your expansive scholastic and clinical education you also may be looked at as overqualified by some, but you are here because there is something missing. There are some gaps in your surgical skills or your facility is now requesting that you have a surgery specific certification. The great news is we can help with either or both of those problems.
Program Option #1 - Acclaimed 6 Day Surgical Skill Lab - Stand Alone
6 FULL DAYS OF SURGEON LEVEL SKILLS TRAINING INCLUDING:
6-Day Hands-On Surgical SkillLab as a Stand Alone Program – is the only part of the program you’re away from work to attend in person. You Obtain and Develop surgeon-level skills. Yes that’s right. The skills you gain at ACE are the very same skills a second surgeon brings to the table as a first assistant, which makes it the most crucial piece of your education. It’s an intensive, but enjoyable and rewarding experience. It includes 2 days of Suturing & Tying and 4 days of realistic Simulated Surgeries, purposely curated to give you the best possible surgical experience.
And importantly, you get the context and applications of your new skills by doing surgeries (both as the assistant and as the surgeon). You also spend time and receive the coaching you need to sharpen your skills so you can perform them like a seasoned assistant from the very first day of your clinicals. Isn’t this what you are looking for?
On the other hand, if you also want to earn an OR specific national certification for surgical assistants, then only the full Surgical Assistant Program will make you eligible. The exam is administered by the American Board of Surgical Assistants and you earn the prestigious title SA-C (Surgical Assistant – Certified) which fits perfectly with your PA-C title. Program Option #2 - THE FULL SURGICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM WITH CREDIT PA EDUCATION
Online Modules – ACE online modules give you the ultimate in convenience. You complete them at your own pace, anytime day or night, evenings or weekends. Whatever works for you. This makes it perfect for you and possibly the only way you can complete the program when your schedule is so busy at the office and in surgery.
You don’t have to quit work to go back to university. What makes it even better is your PA program has earned you credit for 8 of the 10 online modules leaving you with only the Bioscience and Research Modules
6 Day Hands-On Surgical Skill Lab - The same great Surgeon Level Skills training mentioned above.
Clinical Rotations – Do your clinical rotations after completing your skills training, in the hospital where your surgeons operate under their direction. This ensures that you perform your new skills to their satisfaction and in a manner that is fully pleasing to them. You’ll experience a high level of comfort and trust which makes learning as effective as it can be and an excellent experience for both you and your surgeon..
We can streamline your clinicals because of the extent of your clinical training and experience as a PA. You’ll get credit for 115 surgical cases. Which means you only have to first assist on 20 cases to complete your clinical rotation. Your PA credential is the key to fast-tracking your training and achieving speedy success in the ACE program and in surgery.
It makes for a better experience for your surgeons too. They won’t have to teach you from the very beginning. In fact, they may be shocked to find how far you’ve come in just 6 days.
