Formally Trained
Surgical Technologists

Highlight Qualified

When it comes to Formally Trained Surgical Technologists, they already have the knowledge and skills to assist in surgeries but can take it one step further and become a First Assist. They can do this in as little as 6 months with the help of online modules, the 6-Day Surgical Skill Lab™ with hands-on learning, and clinical rotations. On-the-job Trained Surgical Technologists

(with two years of experience)

Qualified

On-the-job trained surgical technologists are qualified for our surgical assistant programs once they have two years of experience. Surgical technologists will need to complete online learning modules, attend our hands-on 6-Day Surgical Skill Lab, and complete clinical rotations to become certified.

(with two years of OR experience and scrub proficiency)

Scrub nurses are highly skilled and qualified individuals who we hope to see in our surgical assistant programs! With experience in the operating room and scrub proficiency under their belts, nurses can expect to complete online modules, a 6-Day Surgical Skill Lab™ to gain hands-on experience, and clinical rotations in order to become a surgical assistant through our program.

Nurse Practitioners

Highly Qualified

For nurse practitioners interested in our online surgical assistant program, there are two potential paths: 

  • Program Option 1: Attend our acclaimed 6-Day Surgical Skill Lab as a stand-alone for the necessary hands-on experience. 
  • Program Option 2: Enroll in the full surgical assistant program with credit PA education. This will include online modules, our 6-Day Surgical Skill Lab, and clinical rotations.

None of the Above

May Not Qualify

If you do not have any of the above credentials but are still interested in becoming a surgical assistant, we recommend you consider enrolling in a Surgical Technology program at one of your local colleges or technical schools. 

Regardless of your medical education or title, if you have two years of on-the-job training as a surgical tech or surgical assistant, you do qualify for the surgical assisting program upon completion of the ACE 5 Basic Operating Room Sciences program.
